Invitation round for 189 Visa is the key component of the Australian immigration system and its structured approach to inviting skilled professionals to work and live in the country. But what exactly is an invitation round, and when was the last one held for the 189 visa? Let's delve into the details.
An invitation round is a periodic event where the Australian Department of Home Affairs invites selected candidates to apply for specific visa subclasses.
These candidates have previously expressed their interest in migrating to Australia by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect online system.
The frequency and number of invitations in each round can vary. Factors influencing these numbers include the number of applications currently being processed by the Department and the specific needs of the Australian labour market.
For certain visa subclasses, such as the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored visas, an 'occupation ceiling' might be applied.
This ceiling sets an upper limit on how many EOIs can be invited for skilled migration from a particular occupation group. The purpose of this ceiling is to ensure a balanced distribution of invitations across various skilled occupations.
The most recent invitation round for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) took place on 25 May 2023. During this round:
A total of 7353 invitations were issued for the 189 visa.
An additional 74 invitations were dispatched for the 491 Family sponsored visas.
The minimum cut-off points for eligibility stood at 65.
Both onshore (within Australia) and offshore (outside Australia) applicants received invitations.
While the Department of Home Affairs has not set a specific date for the next 189 visa EOI invitation round in 2023, it's important to note that these rounds are cyclical.
They typically occur during the program year, with invitations usually released on a quarterly basis.
