Expression of Interest (EOI): Submit an EOI through the SkillSelect online system. If you meet the criteria and score enough points, you might receive an invitation to apply.
Invitation to Apply: After receiving an invitation, you have 60 days to apply for the visa.
Gather Documents: Prepare all necessary documents for yourself and any dependents.
Apply: Submit your application and pay the visa application charge.
Wait for a Decision: The Department of Home Affairs will inform you of the decision on your visa application.
Visa Outcome: If granted, you will receive details of your visa, including its start date and conditions.

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) Application Process:
Submit an EOI via SkillSelect, providing details of your nominated occupation, skills, and qualifications.
SkillSelect will estimate a points score for you and rank you against other intending migrants.
If you rank high enough and there are available places for your nominated occupation, you will receive an invitation to apply for the visa.
After receiving the invitation, you have 60 calendar days to apply for the visa.
Ensure that your occupation is on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations.
Obtain a skills assessment that confirms you have the skills and qualifications for the nominated occupation.
Ensure you meet the points score mentioned in your invitation letter. This score will typically be 65 points or more.
The score is based on the information you provided in your EOI.
Ensure you meet the points score eligibility at the time you receive the invitation to apply.
Gather all necessary documents, including those related to your skills, qualifications, health, character, and any other required information.
Submit your visa application along with all the required documents and pay the visa application fee.
Wait for Decision:
After submitting your application, wait for the Department of Home Affairs to process it and make a decision.
If your visa application is approved, you will receive details about the visa, including its start date and any conditions attached to it.
Compliance & Travel
Once the visa is granted, ensure you and your family members comply with Australian laws and the conditions of your visa.

The Skilled Independent Visa (189) does not require state or territory sponsorship. The Skilled Nominated Visa (190) requires nomination ("sponsorship") by an Australian state or territory. Holders of the 190 visa have obligations to live and work in the nominating state/territory for at least 2 years.
