190 Visa Document Checklist

Identity Documents

  • Passport- Provide pages showing your photo, personal details, and passport issue and expiry dates.

  • National Identity Card: Provide this if available.

  • Proof of Change of Name: This can include:

  • Marriage or divorce certificate.

  • Change of name documents from an Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or the relevant overseas authority.

  • Documents showing other names you've used.

Relationship Documents

  • If you've experienced marital changes (e.g., marriage, divorce, widowhood, or permanent separation), provide relevant documents like divorce papers, death certificates, or statutory declarations.

  • If your partner or dependent children aren't included in the application, explain the reason (e.g., they already have Australian citizenship or are permanent residents).

Character Documents

  • Australian Police Certificate- Required if you've spent 12 months or more in Australia in the last 10 years since turning 16. Only full disclosure National Police Certificates from the Australian Federal Police are accepted.

  • Overseas Police Certificate- From every country where you've spent 12 months or more in the last 10 years since turning 16.

  • Military Records- If you've served in any country's armed forces, provide service records or discharge papers.

  • Forms- Complete and provide Form 80 (Personal particulars for assessment including character assessment) and Form 1221 (Additional personal particulars information).

Competent English Documents

  • Provide proof of competent English at the time of visa invitation.

Partner Documents

  • Identity and Relationship Evidence- This includes identity documents, photos, character documents, marriage certificates (if applicable), and documents about other relationships.

  • De Facto Relationship- Provide evidence of registration by an Australian State or Territory or documents proving a de facto relationship for at least 12 months before application.

  • Genuine Relationship Evidence- This can include joint bank statements, joint bills, joint leases or mortgages, and documents showing shared residency.

  • Partner's Functional English- No proof is needed if your partner is a citizen of the UK, Republic of Ireland, USA, Canada, or New Zealand. Otherwise, provide proof or be prepared to pay an additional visa application charge.

Documents for Dependents Under 18

  • Provide birth certificates or family books showing both parents' names for all dependent children. If applicable, provide adoption papers.

Parental Responsibility Documents
  • Consent is required for any applicant under 18 from individuals with legal rights over the child's residence who aren't migrating with the child. This can be provided through Form 1229 or a statutory declaration. Alternatively, an Australian court order or laws from your home country can be used. Additional identity documents, such as a passport or driver’s license, showing the signature and photo of the consenting individual are required.

Documents for Dependents Over 18

  • To include a child over 18 in your visa application, they must be dependent on you or have a disability. Provide identity documents, relationship documents, and proof of financial dependency. If the child is nearing 23, provide a medical report confirming their dependency due to disability.

Skills Assessment Documents

Specific Professions

  • Medical Practitioners: Provide one of the certificates issued by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

  • Barristers and Solicitors: Provide proof of admission to practice in the relevant state or territory.

Expression of Interest (EOI) Documents

  • Provide documents supporting all claims made in your EOI.

Use of Migration Agent
