Determine Eligibility:

Before starting the application process, ensure you meet the basic eligibility criteria:

  • Occupation is on the relevant skilled occupation list.

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation.

  • A relevant skills assessment (unless an exemption applies).

  • Under 45 years of age (unless an exemption applies).

  • Meet minimum standards of English language proficiency.

Employer Nomination:

An approved employer who operates lawfully in Australia must nominate you. The employer will need to lodge a nomination application on your behalf.

Skills Assessment:

Obtain a positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation from the relevant assessing authority. This assessment verifies that you have the necessary skills for the nominated occupation. It should be done before lodging the visa application. Some exemptions may apply.

Submit the visa application, ensuring all details are accurate and all required documents are attached.

Meet Health and Character Requirements:

Undergo health examinations and provide police certificates to meet the character requirement.

Include Family Members (if applicable):

If you wish to include family members in your application, ensure they meet the health and character requirements. You can either include them when lodging your visa application or add a dependent child after lodging but before a decision is made.

Wait for Decision:

After submitting the application, wait for the decision. During this time, the Australian Government may request additional information or documentation.

494 Visa Outcome:

Once a decision is made, you will be notified. If granted, you'll receive details about the visa, including its start date and conditions.

Start Employment:

If you're outside Australia when the visa is granted, you must begin your employment within 90 days of entering Australia. If you're in Australia when the visa is granted, you must start your employment within 90 days of the visa grant date.

Comply with 494 Visa Conditions:

Ensure you work only in your nominated occupation and for your nominating employer in regional Australia. Non-compliance may lead to visa cancellation.

Pathway to Permanent Residency:

After meeting certain conditions, including holding the 494 visa for at least 3 years and meeting income thresholds, you can apply for the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (Subclass 191).

Remember, each individual's circumstances can vary, so it's essential to seek advice from migration experts or the official Australian immigration website for a comprehensive understanding and tailored guidance.
