Purpose:

The TSS visa is designed to address labor shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers where no suitable Australian workers are available.

Streams:

The TSS visa consists of three streams:

1.Short-Term stream: For employers to source temporary overseas skilled workers in occupations on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) for a maximum of 2 years (or up to 4 years if an international trade obligation applies).

2.Medium-Term stream: For employers to source temporary overseas skilled workers in occupations on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) for up to 4 years.

3.Labour Agreement stream: For employers to source overseas skilled workers in accordance with a labor agreement with the Australian government, where there is a demonstrated need that cannot be met in the Australian labor market and standard visa programs are not available.

482 Visa Eligibility: To be eligible for this visa, applicants must:

1.Have a nominated occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list.

2.Have a relevant skills assessment for the nominated occupation (unless exempted).

3.Meet the minimum English language requirements.

4.Fulfill health and character requirements.

Sponsorship:

Before applying for the TSS visa, the applicant must be nominated by an approved Australian employer.

Pathway to Permanent Residency:

The Medium-Term stream offers a pathway to permanent residency after three years under the Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) or Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) visa.

Renewal:

The TSS visa can be renewed, but the number of renewals and the duration of each visa depend on the stream under which the applicant was granted their initial visa.

Conditions:

There are certain conditions attached to the TSS visa, including working only in the nominated occupation and for the nominating employer.

Cost:

The visa application charges vary depending on the stream and the duration of the visa.

Family Members:

Visa holders can bring family members to Australia, who will have the right to work or study.

Transition from 457 to 482:
