Choose the Appropriate Stream:

• Direct Entry Stream: For those with relevant skills and experience in a position listed in the skilled occupations list.

• Labour Agreements Stream: For those whose sponsor is part of the labour agreements.

• Temporary Residence Transition Stream: For those who have/had a temporary work visa subclass 457 or 482 and wish to stay in Australia permanently.

Employer Nomination:

• Ensure you have an eligible sponsor who meets the necessary criteria.

• Your occupation should be listed in the skilled occupation list.

• Your sponsor applies for your nomination through the ImmiAccount and pays the required fee.

• The sponsor pays the Skilling Australians Fund levy.

Gather Necessary Documents:

• Prepare essential documents, including a valid passport, ID, character documents, proof of English language proficiency, skill assessment, qualifications, work experience, and any relevant licensing or registration.

Apply for the Visa:

• Once you have a valid nomination and a Transaction Reference Number (TRN) from your sponsor, apply for the visa online via the ImmiAccount.

• Pay the visa application fee AUD4,045.

Wait for Processing:

• Direct Entry Stream: 6 to 11 months.

• Labour Agreement Stream: 7 to 11 months.

• Temporary Residence Transition Stream: 14 to 18 months.

Fulfill 186 Visa Obligations:

• Once granted, ensure you work for your sponsoring employer for at least two years. This is not a visa condition but the employment contract must state that the job position is available for at least two years.

• Begin your employment within 6 months of entering Australia or since the visa is granted.

• Adhere to all Australian laws.

Travel Considerations:

• With the 186 visa, you can travel freely for five years. If you wish to travel after this period, consider applying for a Resident Return Visa (RRV) to maintain your permanent resident status when re-entering Australia.
